About “old stuff”

The items on this page are things I did some time ago, but have abandoned. They are here for archival reasons.

AEP: The Active Extension Processor

Please Note AEP is not compatible with OS X 10.4 or higher, and not likely to get.

AEP allows you to run applications when you change the extension of a file or folder in the Finder. You could for example add the suffix “.zip” and turn an item into a zipped archive, or you could remove that extension and unzip the archive. Another option is to translate a file by just changing its file extension, e.g. turn an aiff file into a mp3 file by changing the suffix “.aiff” into “.mp3”.
To get AEP to do this, all you need is a relatively easy to write plug-in. AEP comes supplied with a fair number and a tutorial that shows you how to write your own based on the templates you also get with AEP.

You can find out more on AEP’s homepage.
